Re: This winters projectDidnt quite make it.
Theres a blockage between the filler bottle and the leg so they couldnt fill the gearbox up. Theres a few other small things needs doing like earth the fuel tank. Put a fuse straight off the battery. Battery isolator. Trailer needs tyres. They said it looks good, i just gotta pull the drive to see whats going on. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: This winters projectHopefully its nothing too major Juddy. All the other stuff looks pretty easy to get sorted.
Keep plugging away at it. It'll be on the water before you know it!
Re: This winters projectYeah i got all day today looking at that gear lube problem.
Monday 20th i got 3 days when ill nail all the rest.
Re: This winters projectWere booked back in for the 22nd.

Re: This winters project
Nice work Juddy, old school fault finding. The manual would never suggest plugged line.
Re: This winters projectThere wasnt much on the internet either. Heaps of guys telling u how to fill it 10 different ways but nothing about blockages. It was only because the transom was open with no hoses for 6 months.
Re: This winters projectSo i couldnt help meself and bought a scoop.
Cut a hole in the fuel tank for a fuel level sender and didnt blow up. Aluminiums supposedly doesnt spark so I just took it easy and drowned it in lanolin INOX. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: This winters projectRan pretty good, it sits low in the ass. Might have to throw a few bags of cement up the nose to get it down.
Only issues we had was we lost oil pressure (15-20psi) when we backed off to a idle Im hoping its just the angle of the boat and the pick up or its pooling somewhere. At speed its (50psi) https://youtu.be/rY2v-mnl1eU https://youtu.be/A4_ESBwy5PQ Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
Re: This winters projectWoo Hoo. Success! I like the flash of smile in the 2nd video. That is a smile of satisfaction!
I don't think it is that low in the rear end. It is a rear mount. Some nose weight may be worth experimenting with though. We ran a bit of weight in the nose of our old outboard for years and it helped keep it level. The oil pressure doesn't sound all that low to me. A rule of thumb is that engines need about 10 psi per 1000 RPM. If you idle at about 800 RPM that would seem about right. Rules of thumb are just that so don't take it as gospel, but I think you are in the right ballpark. I reckon that scoop looks bloody cool ![]() Brownie knows boats!
Re: This winters projectYeah its pretty mad max looking.
Just sussing out a spare fuel pump, not sure what pressure the old one is but ive gone from a ~420cfm carb to a 700cfm. Back to work tomorrow so hopefully this rain clears up and i can go for another squirt in it.
Re: This winters projectThe low oil pressure light comes on, its supposabley come on at 5 psi.
I'll see if i can beg, borrow or steal a set of gauges off a mate to suss it all out.
Re: This winters projectBoats been running a treat.
Havent had any oil problems since I put the 40kgs of concrete up the nose. Had to re-do the water pump, we from a 3/4 fynspray pump to a 1-1/4 Johnson crank mounted pump. I had to remove 2 v belt grooves on the front of the crank to mount the new water pump, I had no way to drive the power steering pump so I rigged up an electric powersteering pump off a Holden Astra. And i was getting oil in the leg so i put new seals through it. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: This winters project
Went to kangaroo lake over the weekend and I opened her right up. 75mph or 120km at about 4500rpm on the gps. Dont have any footage as me camera crew suck and used snapchat. Gets a bit hairy because it starts to chinewalk abit at that speed. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: This winters projectGreat work Juddy. You should be well pleased.
Re: This winters projectNice one. Must be a good feeling to put some hours on it and open it up.
I like that it chine walks and gets a bit hairy at speed. Good to let you know that you are alive and get the heart pumping ![]() 75mph is bloody quick. Obviously there are quicker boats out there, but I don't think you were planning on building a race boat as such. Brownie knows boats!
