Axis A20 as a crossover

Postby pat.t » Mon Oct 06, 2014 1:05 pm

Hi

Happy long weekend

Just curious to gather any feedback about the wake behind Axis A20 from skiers?

I'm looking to buy a new boat, primarily for boarding, shortly and exploring my options I see the A20 has quite a attractive price tag. The cut-diamond hull VTX would probably be better suited but a new one is out of my price range, hoping the A20 will do the job

Has anyone here tried skiing behind it?

cheers

very casual...... its never going to be a great slalom wash, its still a big boat designed to throw a wake... friends have one and their son has an occasional ski...its unlikely you'll be laying the ski over and ripping thru an axis wash even at 31 mph

I’m not sure I agree

My mate has an ‘18 a20 and reckons the slalom wake is great (I haven’t ridden it)

I tested and boarded t22 in the states and was amazed how good the wake was at ski speeed

So -test the boat And decide for yourself

Cheers

Yes will do, slim pickings in WA at the minute for good 2nd hand boats. The A20 I was looking at is off the market.

Something will come along.

A mate of mine has a 2010 VTX with the diamond cut hull (same as the response I think) that had a pretty decent ski wash for a drive at slalom speed at barefoot speed the wake was almost non existent. Ya might be able to find one of those :)

They are about, VTX's attract a decent premium though. North of $70k asking price for a 2010+ model.

There are some nice 2015+ Mastrcraft NXT's for early $70's.

Decisions decisions.

So I tested one, 2016 with the revised hull, front ballast full @ 30 ish mph.

Its ok, I'd say its not vastly different to a Malibu VLX of the same year. i.e. if you hit the middle you know about it but its ok if you want to romp around.

I bought one.

Can do when it arrives, hope to get out when it arrives on the weekend.

My VLX comparison may be a little harsh, its been a couple of years since I rode behind Brett Sands' boat. Its lumpier than my Prostar though.

Slalom wake was better than expected at 30mph, very skiiable. Have pics, trying to upload...
