javelin wrote:can't believe we have people comparing vl 3.0l 1.500hp engines to a stock ford 4.0l turbo engines in here.
were taking about a bolting a stock engine in a boat not a highly strung makes boost above so many rpm drag motor

since we are of topic wait till ford bring out there new 5.0l alloy v8 vvt, boost eventually D.I and more, basically more/newer technology then what the boosted 6 has now and comes in about 3-4 differant hp ratings who will bother with the six when this comes out

nicknamed coyote

how much to build a 9 second vl? i can tell you a queenslander ran a 9.94 this week on a stock standard BA (not bf2 or f6) 130,000km old bottom end (only valve springs, the rest of the mods were bolt ons).prevously ran a heap of 10's, strong reliable motor. even a close mate has ran a 10.90 on the stock ba bottom end. how many v8 ba/bf running boss motors have run 9's blown or not? none zip, how much do you have to spend on a late commie to run a 9 secon pass?? blown or not. heaps. just because you boost somthing dosnt mean its gonna be wild. oh and there only changing to the coyote so it will pass emissions. how many blown fg v8's have you seen? a friend of mine owns tufpv, a blown gt ute (no, its not a super pursuit) has ran a mid 12 and runs around 350rwkw, yet a fg f6 with tune only has run mid 11's. another mate ran 12.20 in a ba xrt with tune , crappy cooler , crappy home made intake and punched cat only.

simple xr6t motor (youd pick one up for $2500 complete runner)+ tune (free for me)+ cooler($500ish)+ injectors (siemans dekas $300)+ fuel pump ($150)+ported gate and larger flapper (free for me)= 600hp

feel free to find a copy of street fords issue 44, and aussie brutes issue 23 and you can read all about my xr6t, infact they called the story "budget blue bullet"

i can cruise in 6th gear at 100k's off boost, you will boost in a boat when you take off , but i dont think you will be on boost the whole time. and i get under 10lt per 100klm crusing upto the murray in 110 zones. i get over 600k's to a tank no worries on the highway, and about 450k's in the burbs.

so from the point of a bloke who knows these engines, they would be great in a boat. cheap to mod, powerful, huge torque, and RELIABLE.
to someone that dosnt have a clue...ford crappy 6cly

the most powerful motors in the world by far are straight 6's (and i mean by a lonnnng way.)

Probably shouldn't complain about people expressing their opinions on a forum - they tend to start expressing their opinions about you. :D :D

This thread seems to have two themes now - putting a XR6T motor in a boat (the original theme), and how much HP you can get out of a turbo-6 before it denotates etc, etc.

My good wife would probably complain if I pulled the bent eight out of the Supra to try a Turbo-6, so I don't think it's an option for me.

I wonder why no-one has put a XR6T motor in a race boat. They run twin turbo V8's which must cost a bomb. A race boat would probably be the best place to start with such an engine transplant, or maybe it wouldn't fit into the class structure.

My current boat has close to 400HP,runs reliably every time I turn the key,and is ridiculously economical. It has never struggled to pull anything we have tried pulling and when pulling a wakeboarder it is barely off idle.As a bonus it sounds a $hitload nicer than a taxi as well !!
Why fix what ain't broke.

my boat motor has ported and polished heads, cam, holley 750dp, weiand xcellerator manifold for an estimated 330hp, and its noisey, heavy and expensive to build.

I have been in Dico's car and believe me it has more pull than a schoolboy! First gear is fairly useless when he puts his foot down as it flashes up to redline VERY quickly, but when she hooks up it is off like a rocket. On the other side of things when he drives sedately (not very often obviously as front tyres are new and rears are like racing slicks!) it is so, so smooth. Everyone has their choice of engines and their likes and dislikes but when you consider the fact that this is a production motor I think it deserves a bit of credit for it's potential. As a boat motor it makes it hard for a manufacturer to provide a proper (3 Year) warranty like you can with a PCM, Indmar or Mercruiser engine as well as the length in a general skiboat. Lets face it when you do buy a new boat it is a shame to have only 12 months engine/drivetrain warranty offered IMO.
